When the Hallee family moved into their 1950s Cape Cod house in Portland, Maine, the lack of storage space was an issue that needed to be addressed.Within each space, he restored the home’s original wide-pine-board floors and then matched their color to the walls’ eggshell white.

The Hallees aren’t big fans of ornate home design–“we’re less-is-more kind of people,” says Ken–and the look of these storage spaces reflects that.

Ken also installed a very practical extra electrical outlet behind the television space, eliminating the look of unsightly wires.

But finally, these last couple of weeks, the master closet inched its way to the top of the list!Our closet had collected a mismatch of hangers — wood, blue, silver, green, and white — so I consolidated all the wood and white hangers in our master bedroom closet.MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET BREAKDOWNBen was traveling for work during most of the closet renovation, so we hired out the drywall, flooring patch, and the framing and hanging of the French doors.

Quite a chunk of our budget went to constructing the closet (knocking out the old tiny closet and the construction required to create the new closet space), so we broke the project down into two budget categories: Construction & Finishes.The master closet has entirely changed the way we live in and use our master bedroom, and it feels pretty great.

We'll have two sloped-ceiling bedrooms upstairs -- both will be guest rooms -- and I like the look of these built-ins ... but I have a couple concerns:- This would essentially remove all choice in furniture placement.Do you think we'd regret that?
