For this project, we made the seat 430mm high and raised the lower shelf 100mm off the floor.Step 10: Secure the upper shelf in place using screws going through the back of the door.For the coat rack, use screws (for a solid-wood door) or a decorative bolt (for a hollow door).

What to do with Surplus Vintage Doors: Make a Bench/Pew & Coat

I recently had some leftover vintage doors from all the ones I accumulated for my new booth setup at Antiques Shoppes at 1100 Barksdale Blvd.None was needed in the back since the back panel has many screws going into the seat panel along the back.The front includes large, vintage yardsticks, bottle openers, and a couple of vintage metal claw accents from old furniture legs.

I had the leftover portions of the doors I used for the seat panel and the backboard.Some old metal hinges provide great support when hung on a wall either in the home or a retail shop.

This is made with the leftover part of an old door that I cut down to use for a work bench in my new craft studio.This is the end I cut off and I thought it would make a cute coat rack to help create my entry way.InstructionsPaint all the parts (door, shelf brackets (if you have chosen wood), and shelf) the same color.Mount the brackets to the door at the top the same way you would mount them to a wall.

I started with this old door:Note to self, if you want to try a project like this on your own, try to find a door without the paint on it.It’s important to note that this is an old, solid wood door, so it is really sturdy and easy to add hangers on.

We ended up changing our mind about adding that third little spot, for the wall we picked it would have been to squished looking.I just nailed it wall since it is so thin, but my husband came back popped it off and sanded the wall and added liquid nails and THEN nailed it to the wall.We used liquid nails on the back of each board and then nailed them to the wall-there are NOT moving!Step 6: Caulk every gap between each board and the wall.
