Patio Door Refresh: Mid Century Modern Orange Makeover

One of my favorite areas of my home is a small courtyard that we had built when we bought the house.I gave my courtyard a makeover by painting the boring doors in this bold Mid Century Orange color using DecoArt’s Curb Appeal paint.Step two: Use painters tape where the glass touches the wood.Step five: Remove the painter’s tape from the glass and admire your new door!

Orange Front Door!

I can pretty much retire from life because having an orange front door = I’ve made it.The door color is orange perfection, Behr Fireglow, the same color we used on our master door and screen door and crazy backyard wall.With our old door, I took the opportunity to experiment with a few other colors (coral and turquoise), knowing orange would be the forever color when we upgraded.

One thing to consider when choosing front door paint colors, which I didn’t, is that darker colors combined with intense, direct sunlight make for greater heat.

The same paint we used on our master/backyard door and screen door without issue.

I casually mentioned before what a struggle it was to find mid-century leaning door hardware for the front door.Aesthetic considerations include metal finishes, new vs. vintage hardware, handlesets vs. knobs, and to escutcheon or not.

Backset extenders are available to increase the spread for undrilled doors or for replacement hardware on backset vintage doors.
