Jack-and-Jill Bathroom RenovationFull disclaimer: this was not a DIY project.Primarily, that involved painting every surface in sight, but there was one other task necessary before we could be at peace in this house: removing the sliding doors from the shower in the Jack-and-Jill bathroom.A pretty, pretty white-and-blue bow-covered coffin.

It was so bad that these are literally the only photos I have of the bathroom before the sliding shower doors were removed:You know why they’re so blurry?Rather than the shower doors, I sewed up a shower curtain in a white-and-blue print, to keep the visual clutter to an absolute minimum in here.

Our house is Spanish, built in 1926, their design makes sense in keeping with that theme in a very literal (but moderately updated) way.It also has really extra tiny sinks- which I actually really love BUT not in a master bedroom.

But the hallway entrance is unnecessary- we already have a guest bathroom and that door makes an already small-ish bathroom even smaller!

I love that like the other bathroom it’s modern, but honors the Spanish style of the house with the tile.And I really love that there’s some cohesion between the master bath and the guest bath.

Our New Jack and Jill Bathroom Plan + Get The Look

Here was our proposed plan to change:Bedroom 1 would be a suite and we’d steal from bedroom 2 and 3 to create a Jack and Jill bathroom for the two kids.The room has no windows and barely room for a mirror – so we got creative with materials and finishes.Floor tile: $492.86 (32 sq.My contractor said that he figured adding this bathroom would have been $27k on its own (NOT including materials).

Plus now we run laps around the second story of the house – through the two bedrooms/hallway and new bathroom while wearing bathrobes (CAPES!!!).

This tiny Jack & Jill bathroom belonged to my client’s two sons, one in high school and the other off at college.There was no medicine cabinet, so the boys had been storing all of their toiletries in a wall cabinet that hung above the toilet.The corner where the sink is now had a corner cabinet that housed a tiny sink but really took up a lot of floor space for very little storage.The subway tile in the shower and the surrounding walls, as well as the hexagon shaped floor tiles in marble helped keep the period look.
