I'm replacing carpet with wood flooring in my dining/formal living.My problem is that the kitchen cabinets are a dark cherry stained oak and I've been told I need to keep the color scheme throughout the house.

we have nice dark wood flooring in out kitchen, but light oak cabinets which i really dont like, i was thinking of redoing them and staining them a dark wood color also.would this be too much for the room?thanks also if anyone has redone cabinets is it hard?
