I was enjoying all the moody matte black accessories that I had in the living room this fall, and when it came time to decorate, I honestly didn’t really want to put them away. One of the things I’ve learned is that if you have a good, solid collection of basic Christmas decor that’s fairly neutral, you can easily change the look a bit every year with some fresh ribbon and a few key accessories. 🙂 I used this really lovely birch bark ribbon that I found at Michaels this year to dress the tree and to make the topper.
I added a few more of the giant pine cones to my collection, and a few more of the white berry picks to fill things out, but I had quite a few of those in my bins already too.
It’s amazing how everyday decor items, a few brass elements and some things gathered from outside can seem so quintessentially Christmassy when they’re brought together. I love how quiet and peaceful the black and white Christmas decor scheme feels during this busy time of year.
For the record, I did order a Christmas version of this Nest candle and it came in a couple of days after we shot these photos. I’m happy to report though that my shelves and bins in the basement will not be overflowing when I put away this year’s Christmas stuff.
